I have some very strange errors in JComments 2.1.

Only the "Quote"-link is visible in comments, not the "Reply", "Reply with Quote" or "Report to administrator"-links.
Besides this some other settings seem not to work.
If I change to tree view nothing happens. It's still flat view.
The censored words are shown as "[censored]" in the "Latest comments" module, but not under the article.
And I also changed the "[censored]" to "***".

I know these are several problems, but I think they have the same origin.

When I installed JComment the first time I hade the reply-link, but the Youtube-button wasn't visible, despite I had it turned on and "Custom BBCode" turned on.
I re-installed JComments and after that the Youtube/Google/Wiki-buttons appeared.
But now I've got other problems, as mentioned above.

I have tested in both Firefox 3.5 and Google Chrome 3.0 and logged in as admin and registered. Doesn't help.
I use Joomla 1.5.14 and PHP 5.x with Swedish as global site language.

The 'Reply' function available only for Tree view mode and if user have rights to use this function. So check settings on View and Permissions tabs.

This is why it's strange..
I changed to "tree" view and then "save".
Nothing happened. If I go back to the "layout" tab it says "tree", but it's still flat view when I reload the site.
And under permissions I have "Post replies to comments" checked.

So the origin of the problem is somewhere else, on a lower level it seems.
This is not the only feature not working.

Both tree view and reply worked before. So I guess I've screwed something up. Smiley

Sure. I can give it a try.
Do I have to uninstall all the old JComments plugins first, or just install the new one over the old?

No, you don't need uninstall previouse version. You can new version without unistalling previous version of JComments. It will automatically make all nessesary updates and save all comments and settings. See PM for link and check changelog for full list of changes.

BTW, can you check Swedish language file for JComments? In this version some new strings were added to language file so it needs update.

I've tried the latest version now.
It installed fine and I really liked the new AJAX powered(?) save , that doesn't reload the settings page and jumps to the forst tab anymore.
But the problems still remains. I can't switch to tree view anymore.

I tried the new "restore defaults" and after that my comments disappeared and so did the text after "read more" on frontpage.
I uninstalled every JComment-plugin I had and reinstalled, but it didn't help.

The strange thing is that I can see my comments in the "latest comments" module (mod_jcomments) but not in content anymore. If I click the comment links in the module nothing happens.

I don't know what's wrong. I'll try it on my local WAMP server too. Which runs Joomla 1.5.11.

I added a line in my PHP.ini some days ago. But I don't think it has to do with that.
It's from the Joomla security checklist.
Code:
disable_functions = show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec, phpinfo, popen, proc_open

I'm translating the Swedish language file now btw. Should I post the updated strings in PM or the Translations forum?

It's very strange but we must found problem's source and fix it. Could you show me your site (send me link to PM or e-mail), please?

It seems I've found the source to my problems now.

I installed jcomments 2.1.0.8 on my WAMP-server running Joomla 1.5.11 and it worked perfect.
Censored words, reply and tree view.
I have som plugins/templates installed on the website that I don't have on my local server.

So I turned some plugins off on the Joomla installation on my webserver and that seemed to do the trick.
The comments came back both in "read more" on frontpage and the comments after the article.
I'm not 100% sure yet, but it seems to be some conflict with JoomFish.
I'll trouble-shoot some further and report back when I know exaclty which plugin/module that's causing it.

You need check JComments settings for every language available on your site. After installing JoomFish additional parameter added to JComments' settings section - JoomFish language. And all JComments params can be adjusted for every language.

You may have different settings for any language supported on your site. So check if Tree view selected in settings for all languages Wink

Aah! So there are individual JComment settings for each language?
I thought it was a single setting as everything else.

It seems I've managed to get everything to work as supposed now.
But I'm still a bit confused about the separate settings for each language.
For example if you change language in the drop down menu the settings below doesn't refresh.
You have to change tab and then back again to update the settings.

I also noticed that you have to turn "notifications" on to be able to report comments (one of the new features in 2.1.0.8 ).
But this means that the admin will get a mail for EVERY comment sent on the site.
I would prefer a setting to recieve only reports of comments. Maybe it's already planned for the upcoming version?

Anyway.. I'll finish translating the updated swedish language file now.

Sounds great! Smiley
I really appreciate the quick support here. Better than any support forum I've tried.

Would it also be possible to have your default language pre-selected in the language dropdown menu under the JComment settings?
Everytime you open it it's set to "English", so you manually have to choose "Swedish" or whatever language that's your default.

Do you mean select default language for site in this case?

Yes the site language.
I discovered now that I have Swedish set as site language but English for admin/backend.
Maybe that's why Jcomment Settings pre-select English in the dropdown menu?

I also discovered a bug in the Youtube-tag.

It can't handle the very common URL (which is Youtube default if you copy the URL):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg8YYuLLoM0&feature=channel_page

You must strip it down to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg8YYuLLoM0

I guess I can fix this myself under "Custom BBCode".
If I only knew HOW. Smiley
At least I know how to change the width/height to 16:9-format, which most videos are published in nowadays.
480x295 or 560x340 pixels worked fine.
