Hey all!  I'm new to this module and am really looking to get it set up right; however, it just doesn't seem to be working well for me.  I need to get this set up so that people can only comment on articles.  I can only see options for activating the module by section and category - which causes it to show up EVERYWHERE - all menu items and category listings, rather than just the articles.  Is there any way I can get the comments to show up ONLY for articles?  I am also using the multi categories module and I don't know if this may be interfering so that perhaps this module is only picking up joomla categories and not those connected through multi categories.  My site is http://www.eatoututah.com and I do not have the module set up on the live site yet because I like to figure out how to get everything set up on a test site using wamp and then set it up on the live site when everything is working right.  But seeing the live site as it currently exists will help you see the layout and give direction that might also be related to how I have joomla set up.
Any help or feed back is much appreciated!
I'm using joomla 1.5

I am newer to Joomla as well, and had the exact same question, so I thought I would jump in on this topic to see what help you get! I don't want comments to be allowed on everything either, and if anyone has tips on really cutting out the spambot comments, I would love to hear tips on that as well. Thanks!

Have you tryed disabling JC (un-selecting all categories in JC settings) and just add {jcomments on} at the end of an article/s that you actualy want to have JC on?
