I recently upgraded to 2.2 from 2.1 and found that all old comments are now appearing with Guest as author. do we know the issue and solution?

JComments 2.1 had such bug but it couldn't be in JComments 2.2. May be you've lost guest's names before upgrade? Do you have DB backup?
