Hello, hope you're having a merry xmas!

I was thinking yesterday about the situation with social sites, and how that is affecting "usual sites"

We've found that currently most people reads articles and comments them in their facebook/twitter accounts, so most of the conversation is lost if our comment ssytem is not playing with them...

There are nice solutions for that, jacomments or rokcomments allos you to play with intensedebate, discus or echo that can play with facebook, twitter, buzz and so...

But then we would lose our own ocmmunity integration, either jomsocial or CB, users like to know they are posting "home"...

I hope jcomments can give the next step not to lose social media train, is the best comment system for joomla, most adapted everywhere (even these people with their own comment systems template for jcomments), and most integrated, so, in my case, I feel soon we will have to swap to a more "global" commentig system rather than the "home" one...

Regards

Joomla Community Builder integrates with Facebook/Twitter login, and CB integrates with JComments

It will depend on how much you gonna use user accounts on your joomla site:
1- if it's just comments, there are powerful comment systems out there integrating with a lot of social medias.
2- if you look for something more, integrating with a forum, multiple authors, contribution and rating, and more than just social sharing buttons, than you can start thinking about integrating CB on your site, and since JComments integrate with it, users would connect from FB/Twitter to your site's CB login, then comment.

I know that, and is not what I said, I know nearly all community extensions ( CB and Jomsocial are not the only ones) connect with FB, even without them you can do with multiples plugin (I recommend JCB component), but that is not what I mean...

Using intensedebate/disqus/echo, the comments gets posted also on the user doing them profiles in twitter/facebook,/etc... as tweets, status updates/ buzzs... that is a great way of promoting your site, counting how the web is working lately, nearly your only way...

The problem is, taking advantage of this, doesn't promote your site community at all...

Right now, we have to decide between stay selfcentered, and use jcomments, jomcomments, jacomments,... and use the site userbase, or guests, or use 3rd party services (intensedebate, disqus, echo) so our site has visibility on the users social circles...

I see it more each day, people doesn't participate on sites anymore, they prefer (logically) to take the discusson to their social circles, people doesn't "argue" anymore on forums or posts comments, they come through a link in someone social profiles, and answer on them... and that's bad for us...
