"Restore default" works, but custom settings are not saved

Hi, I've read several other reports about JComments settings not being saved, which is basically the problem I have as well.

However, the strange thing is that the "Restore default" option works just fine. But changing anything else - from custom categories to custom values for the other settings - does not, despite the usual "Settings have been successfully saved!" message.

Manually changing the values in the "jos_jcomments_settings" table works, but obviously that's not a solution I'd like to endure in the long run.

I also tried dumping all the old _jcomments... tables from the database prior to a re-install, but still no luck.

Using Joomla v1.5.21, with JComments 2.2.0.2.

Any thoughts, without giving out access to the Joomla backend? (sorry, the site that I'm updating isn't mine, and currently I'm unable to reach the owner to ask for his 'blessing'...)
