Hi There,
I don't like to complain - because this is a generously FREE extension, but...

I've been having a problem with my site - some pages are loading as completely blank. The address displays but the pages are white. There's not even any source code behind them.

I tried hours and days of trawling the code of the articles' HTML, I tried recreating new articles instead, tried switching off other modules - nothing made the pages  load with any content in them. Finally, I switched off the JComments sitewide and the pages' content reappeared!

I then began to unpublish comments under one of the article that wasn't displaying any content and sure enough - I found a comment that caused the blank page. Strangely, there's no custom html or strange characters or anything in the comment. It's just plain text. Anyway, with some comments 'unpublished I had my pages/articles back live again. This was 2 or 3 months ago.

Today however I see that those pages are displaying as empty/blank again. I just don't understand what's going on. No new comments have been added to them.

Have you any ideas? This is really very worrying.

Regards,
John

One question:

On some comments I actually shortened the 'RE: RE: RE: RE: title' in some cases, to just 'RE: title'. This was because they were starting to look very long. Could this be causing problems for the extension?

Could you show me this comment source text?

Check your webserver (Apache) error log for detailed information about the error - if some page is displayed blank it means that some critical error occured.

Hi Smart, here's a comment that breaks the page:

"I think it was pretty good with a tractor beam bit and hangar. It worked so well we made a cantina as well and then invented rules for the card game they were playing in the scene - coolab. You brought it home on your bike and old man Nolan thought you were trying to take off down our hill - cardboard wings."

I can't see the source code because the page is blank.

I'll see if I can find the Apache error log thing. I don't know about that tech stuff at all.

You could do this in JComments backend Wink

Another comment that breaks a page:

It must have just been in the Comic, the novel and your Star Wars Storybook. And as I said - youngsters with vivid and creative imaginations - as you, John S. and I had - probably retrospectively built it all into the imagined experience of seeing the film. I bet we used to have conversations like
"Surely you remember that brilliant bit?"
"Oh yes, er... of course (I think. Try to fit in, try to fit in)"
"Oh well if you two do - I do too."

It's funny, you'd think the film would have been a disappointment when we finally saw it again after a few years.

Did that,
Code:
<textarea name="comment" id="comment_text" rows="10" cols="25" class="editbox long">I think it was pretty good with a tractor beam bit and hangar. It worked so well we made a cantina as well and then invented rules for the card game they were playing in the scene - coolab. You brought it home on your bike and old man Nolan thought you were trying to take off down our hill - cardboard wings.</textarea>

Looks ok doesn't it?

Hi Smart,
This problem is still happening on and off. Sometimes it's ok so the comment stays published - other times the page goes blank so I have to unpublish the comment again.

I don't have any idea how to check error logs.

Hi again Smart,
Do you think you can determine my problem from this error log? Here's the last entry a few minutes ago:

---------------------------

[Tue Sep 21 22:01:16 2010] [error] [client 89.101.16.173] File does not exist: /home/users1/johniwhite/www/starwarsage9.com/administrator/plugins, referer: http://starwarsage9.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_jcomments&task=comments

---------------------------

If I replace the text of a comment with a period/fullstop - the page still goes blank. If I unpublish it - all is well again.

I can send you the whole 'error log file (19kb) - and the backend access details again if you like?

Thanks
John

Yes, send me this log and give me again access to backend. Also remember me link to comment that produces this problem. Contact me via PM (or email).

I've tested your site and found that if we unpublish plugin 'System - css2switch' all works fine. If I publish it - the page you send is blank. So I think that we've some PHP error with this plugin on that page. See PM for more information.
