This is a strange bug, and I have no idea how you would recreate it. Though I had to change my comment around to get it to submit properly, I'm submitting this thread to let the developers know that the plugin may get fickle with people.
Summary:I can submit comments, except for one. Even when I cut away at it to contain only one of it paragraphs, it will not submit.
In general I can submit short and huge comments to articles with no problem.
But this one... this one little paragraph... refuses. It doesn't contain any bad words, nor do I even have a censor list with any words listed in it.
Solution: Modifying the paragraph slightly, by adding a few words and a comma.
Testing:I have taken out all the punctuation, leaving just the words. Still won't submit.
I have trimmed words off one at a time until it goes through. The last word that had to be removed from the beginning and end of the paragraph was 'do'.
I am able to submit the first half of the paragraph. I am able to replace it with the second half of the paragraph as well. But both of them together, nope! No error, just the loading animation and then nothing.
I have tried the entire article WITH that one paragraph omitted--and it goes through!
The paragraph in question is:
almost there one last thing to do bring this beast into the light he shook his head and sat down he had used enough magic for now he would wait a few hours and rest
I have never seen such strange behavior before in a plugin! There's no rhyme or reason for it.
Now for the droll details leading up to the event.
DetailsOriginally the only one who ever posted comments to articles was myself, as the Super Administrator. I've had no problems with JComments until today, when I made another username of mine a Manager.
While on that Manager username, I accidentally edited the wrong comment. I had been meaning to test out to see if color bbcode worked, and changed the wrong comment to: test. Whoops! Well no worries, I had a copy of the original comment from another site, so I just went and retrieved the information, to put it back in.
Now what should have occurred, like normal, was the comment being edited successfully. However, the loading animation didn't appear, and nothing happened. I waited a while, in case it was just lag, but it acted like I hadn't clicked Submit.
Strange! So I logged out and back in as the Super Administrator, but alarmingly enough, there was no Edit feature even available for that comment. It's present for other comments on other articles, but not this one.
As a side note, I enabled Custom BBCode after that, because I am curious about enabling color.
Anyhoo, next I updated to the latest version of JComments, just in case. I like the back-end of it better than the previous version!
However, as Super Administrator, I still couldn't edit that comment. I went into the back-end to edit it and submitted it, or tried to--I got 404 error page. Refreshing didn't change anything.
Finally, with little else to do, I just deleted the comment. Figured it was just a glitchy comment, and would move on.
So I logged back on to my Manager username, and tried to add a new comment with the same information (the one with the 'bad' paragraph). The loading animation appeared, that was all. Even when I waited 10 minutes, the comment wouldn't go through.
I logged back out and back in as Super Administrator, and tried again. Same thing. Just the loading animation, nothing else.
I tried this in both Firefox 3.6.3 and IE 8.
Went to another article and tried to comment, but it still wouldn't go through. I also noticed that I wasn't being e-mailed notifications anymore for new or changed comments, not the ones made before the upgrade, or after.
Now, so far, I can put in new comments, and get notifications. I still can't make or edit a comment on the one article, though, to contain the information with the 'bad' paragraph.
I'm not sure what set the plugin off, but it's mad at me! How do I appease the great Jcomments?
