Well, I thought I had it installed, but I think I'm missing a step.

I downloaded the component, uploaded it and installed it to Joomla.   I went to the module manager, selected jcomments, and saved the defaults.

However, now I don't know how to get the comments button to appear on articles on my site.

After this you need to select content categories where are comments will be enabled. The categories list placed on the first tab of JComments settings.
